Redick Hall, 1908
University of Omaha (1908-1931)
Redick Hall
Redick Hall was the fledgling University of Omaha's first building on its new campus in North Omaha. Redick Hall was named for Oak C. Redick, a member of the board of trustees, who offered his 10-acre homestead mansion at 24th and Pratt Streets to the university on flexible terms. The completion of Joslyn Hall in 1916 relegated the mansion obsolete. It was dismantled and shipped 222 miles to Currie, Minnesota where it was recycled as a dance pavilion and cafe on Lake Shetek.

The Regents' Commission report: A Blueprint for the Seventies
University of Nebraska at Omaha -- Planning
"In March 1970, the University of Nebraska Board of Regents acted to establish a Regents' Commission on the Urban University of the 1970s to examine the appropriate role of the University of Nebraska at Omaha as an urban university.
"Chaired by Willis Strauss, president of Northern Natural Gas Co., the 14-member committee accepted the responsibility to recommend specific educational philosophies and programs which are to be incorporated into the mission of the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
"In the final, 32-page report. the Regents' Commission defined the general role of a university as well as the particular role of an urban university. In arriving at their conclusions as to their definitions and educational premises, the Commission studied the economy of the Omaha region, student life styles, environmental human and social deficiencies. serious immediate problems affecting UNO faculty, students and administration and the significance of Omaha's size."

H. A. Raapke Architectural Drawings
Architectural drawing
The H. A. Raapke Architectural Drawings collection contains original architectural drawings and studies dating from 1891 to 1907. The collection includes 53 original drawings on 48 loose sheets (most 18.5" x 24.5", some with drawings on both sides) with detailed architectural drawings in pencil, some with watercolor accents. Some are stamped "Atelier Préparatoire D'Architecture, Godefroy & Freynet, 4, Rue du Dragon, 4 - Paris" or "Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts, Concours D'Emulation." Many are signed H.A. Raapké. The artist seems to have experimented with different stylized signatures with varying degrees of legibility, at one point apparently shortening the spelling to H.A. Rapké. At some point, the artist appears to have dropped the acute accent mark from Raapke. Some drawings are unstamped and unsigned. The range of dates of these drawings is from 1899 to 1907, with some sheets lacking dates.
H. A. Raapke (d. 1959) was an architect in Omaha, Nebraska. He designed the Renaissance Mansion in Omaha, the North Star Theatre in Omaha, and the New Moon Theater in Neligh, Nebraska. He was a member of the American Institute of Architects from 1918 until 1923.
Note that due to a software glitch, the individual file names and identifiers within this set only end in odd numbers. Missing even numbers do not indicate missing images. All 53 images are presented here.
